Job Overview:
The ADRC of Brown County, Dementia Care Specialist is committed to working with community partners to ensure Brown County has dementia friendly and dementia capable communities. The volunteer position works in conjunction with the dementia care specialist to aid in outreach and community presentations in Brown County. Activities will take place during normal working hours (M-F) and can accommodate a variety of available hours from potential candidates.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Conduct outreach activities in Brown County communities to help facilitate dementia friendly community initiatives.
· Assist with marketing efforts.
· Present a variety of dementia education topics as identified by Heather Flick, MS.
· Present Dementia Friends and Purple Angel programs.
· Must have a passion for dementia related topics and brain health.
· Comfortable leading groups of various sizes and backgrounds.
· Comfortable presenting in person or virtually.
· Self-starter who can take charge and form community connections to help aid Dementia Care Specialist role.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Passion for public speaking to a variety of group sizes and backgrounds.
· Strong knowledge of dementia and brain health.
· Preference for someone who has or has cared for someone with memory concerns.
· The candidate should be willing to make a commitment to the dementia care specialist program.
· Ability to perform additional duties as needed and agreed upon with the Dementia Care Specialist.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
· Demonstrates passion to work with adults, who may/not have memory changes, and is patient with them and has a general interest in brain health.
· Communicating orally and in writing in an effective, prompt, and clear manner.
· Promotes positive engagement and peer support.
· Is sensitive to participants’ challenges, especially vision or hearing impairments.
· Wants to give back to their community.
· Comfortable using computer applications and technology.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, county agencies, departments, providers, and the public.
· Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality of files and information.
· Ability to organize and prioritize work.
· Ability to deal tactfully with difficult situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
· Intermittent standing, walking, and sitting.
· Using hand(s)/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, and operating controls.
· Occasional bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, reaching, and grappling.
· Distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes.
· Distinguishing people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions.
· Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as irate individuals, violence and/or crisis may cause discomfort and poses a limited risk of injury.
