Description

In unison with our institutional priorities of supporting student success for all students, making education more inclusive and equitable and being community-engaged to solve problems of our region, UWGB's faculty and staff are committing to providing unpaid, flexible hours to read to students in 1st-3rd grade. Volunteers will be supported with a reading mentor prep course (online, self-paced). Through this initiative we can ensure an equitable and enhanced future for the children of our community. Recent statistics have shown a 14% decrease in reading proficiency, with only 27% of Brown County students meeting their 3rd grade proficiency targets. Therefore, it is essential that we act to solve an issue that will affect UWGB's future and the economic capacity of the region.

Thank you for doing your part in contributing towards an equitable future for children in our community. By committing hours of your time, you are helping to solve the issues of dramatically low literacy rates, and massive equity gaps between children of marginalized populations and white students. We look forward to continued communication where we can continue to put in time to serve our community in equitable ways.
