What Are The Qualifications . . .
- Our Peer Leaders have the desire and the compassion to help older adults prevent falls. They want to give back.
- Our Peer Leaders have completed a Stepping On workshop or have personal experience with falls prevention (through loved ones or self). They understand. They’ve been there. They share in the benefits experienced from the program, and help facilitate a process of how you can prevent falls to help stay injury free and independent.
- Our leaders have experience leading small groups of 10-15 people in a comfortable, peer-led setting where people feel, see, and share experiences about falls.
- Our Peer Leaders commit their time to lead a workshop once or twice per calendar year in the Green Bay area or near-by Brown County surrounding communities. Workshops run 7 weeks for 2 hours per week.
- Two Leaders are required for the workshop, and a Peer Leader supports the Leader following a set curriculum.
Don’t Worry. Training (with curriculum) is provided . . .
- The program, developed by Jane Mahoney, MD, UW Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, is structured, which makes facilitating the workshop with a co-leader easy. Simply follow the outlined topics and activities provided in a manual.
- Training and coaching are provided every step of the way.
- Training is approximately 4 hours and is provided by your sponsoring organization.
- Share your experience with falls prevention to help motivate others.
